Women's Basketball heads to Rust, Tougaloo

The Wiley University women's basketball team will complete its road trip with games against Rust College at 5:30 p.m. Thursday and Tougaloo College at 3 p.m. Saturday.

The games will air on the Rust College and Tougaloo College channels on HBCU-Plus, which can be streamed online or via the app on mobile devices and Smart TVs.

The Lady Wildcats (11-10, 6-7 GCAC) hope to end a three-game losing streak. They haven't won on the court since their 90-81 overtime victory over Tougaloo College on January 6. Wiley picked up a forfeit win over Southern University at New Orleans on January 20.

In its last outing against the University of the Virgin Islands on February 1, Minnie Miller led the team with 12 points. Alayia Francis followed with her second straight double-digit scoring game at 10. Jamiya Eaddy provided a game-high 14 rebounds.

Rust (19-3, 11-1 GCAC) dominated Dillard University and Southern-New Orleans to stay atop the conference standings. It holds a one-game lead over Philander Smith University and Fisk University. Niya McGuire recorded a double-double against Dillard with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Zoe Alexander scored 10 points and grabbed five rebounds. Dekyria Patterson led the team against SUNO with 15 points. Diamond Sweats and McGuire followed with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

In the January 4 game at Wiley, Sweats led the team with 14 points. Ahmari Young and Amelya Hatch followed with 11 each. Karyn Ford grabbed 10 rebounds. The Lady Bearcats are 9-0 at home.

Tougaloo (5-14, 4-8 GCAC) split its games with a 72-59 victory over SUNO and a 58-49 defeat against Dillard University. It is seventh in the GCAC, trailing Oakwood University by a half-game for sixth and Wiley by 1.5 games for fifth.

Morgan Williams scored 15 points and grabbed three rebounds against Southern-New Orleans. Ta'Mya Sims and Sharisse Bridges followed with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Brayland Ferguson grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds. She recorded a double-double against Dillard with 17 points and 20 rebounds.

Wiley leads the overall series 15-13 against Rust but has lost the last five. It leads the series against Tougaloo 12-4 and has won the last four.
