Women's Basketball posts 2024-25 Schedule

The Wiley University women's basketball team will play 27 games with nine at Alumni Gymnasium, as it revealed its 2024-25 schedule on Wednesday.

For the fourth consecutive season, the Lady Wildcats will open on the road - traveling to Langston University (Okla.) on October 24. It will mark the third meeting between the programs since Langston left the Red River Athletic Conference in 2018. Wiley will open its home schedule with its Homecoming game against Highway 80 rival Jarvis Christian University on November 2. It will play Huston-Tillotson University in the 2024 Austin Area Urban League Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Classic on November 9 at the H-E-B Center in Cedar Park.

The Lady Wildcats will open HBCU Athletic Conference play on November 14 at home against Southern University at New Orleans. The conference added three schools Stillman College (Ala.), Voorhees University (S.C.) and Wilberforce University (Ohio), bringing the total to 13 teams. The addition of these schools not only caused conference play to start earlier, it also has the conference returning to pod play, which it instituted during the 2022-23 season. Head coach DeWitt Mandley said with most of his team new, the conference format should work to his team's advantage.

"It will propel us into competing at a high level," Mandley said. "It will generate some internal competition among the women trying to get heavy rotation spots. I think they will look forward to it."

From December 13-17, Wiley will head to Wilberforce and take on the host Bulldogs, Rust College, Fisk University and Voorhees. It will play at Talladega College, at Stillman and Oakwood University at Talladega College from January 3-6. The conference was divided into East and West divisions. The Lady Wildcats are in the West with Dillard University, Philander Smith University, SUNO and Tougaloo College. They will play home-and-home with each school.

Wiley will hold special events for most of its home games. In addition to Homecoming, it is hosting a Sponsorship Night during the November 14 game against SUNO. The November 16 game against Dillard University will be Sneaker Day. The game against Dallas Christian College will be Canned Goods Day on November 26. Greek Night will be on January 18 when Wiley hosts the University of the Virgin Islands. The Lady Wildcats will have a Black Out to celebrate Black History Month by hosting Philander Smith on January 23. The January 28 game against Arlington Baptist University will be the Play4Kay Game honoring cancer awareness. Wiley closes out its home schedule against Tougaloo College on February 6 when it will recognize its seniors.

The 2025 HBCUAC Championship will be held at Stillman College's Birthright Alumni Hall from February 25 until March 2. The Lady Wildcats enter their second season under Mandley. Elizabeth Camacho, Cailan Hale and Kewaysha Alsup are the only returning players. Mandley and his assistant Nigel Mayfield brought in several transfers to help improve upon last season's 12-16 record that ended in the conference quarterfinals.
