Women's Basketball faces Huston-Tillotson in the AAUL HBCU Live Xperience Classic

On Saturday, the Wiley University women's basketball team takes on Huston-Tillotson University in a pivotal basketball encounter at the 2024 Austin Area Urban League Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Live Xperience Classic at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Austin Convention Center.

The game will be streamed on HBCU-Plus, which can be viewed online or the app can be downloaded on mobile devices or Smart TVs. Live statistics will also be available. Both teams, each seeking their first win of the season with a current record of 0-2, will clash for the first time since 2022 when Wiley pulled out a 75-62 win in November 2022.

The Lady Wildcats have a favorable recent history against the Rams, having won four of the last six encounters. These two teams were competitors in the Red River Athletic Conference until 2022, adding a layer of intensity and history to the matchup.

This season, both teams have players who could be pivotal in turning around their fortunes. Wiley will look to Kewaysha Alsup, who has been efficient, averaging 8 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Alsup, along with Mary Leday and Jessica Nerestant, who have also put up significant numbers this season, will be critical for the Wildcats.

The Rams fell to Florida Memorial University and Philander Smith University at their Tiffany Jackson HBCU Classic. They will rely on guard Wilashia Burleson for scoring, who averages 9.5 points per game. Huston-Tillotson also boasts strong performances from sophomore forward Danielle Porter and freshman guard Aliyah Carter, who lead in rebounds and assists respectively.

With both teams eager to avoid a 0-3 start, which Wiley last faced in the 2021-22 season, the stakes are especially high. This contest promises not only to be a battle on the court but also a significant milestone in each team's early season strategies.
