Women's Basketball succumbs to No. 22 LSU-Shreveport
Wiley University women's basketball fell behind early and could not recover in a 94-69 loss against No. 22 Louisiana State University in Shreveport Wednesday at Alumni Gymnasium.
The Lady Wildcats (1-1) were outshot 44.7 to 32.9 percent. They struggled to maintain possession, committing 26 turnovers, which led to 31 points for the Pilots. Wiley only hit four of 15 shots in the first quarter while allowing LSU-Shreveport to hit eight of 16. It only made on field goal in the first eight-and-a-half minutes. Wiley trailed by as many as 14. Three-pointers by Alexis Foster and Kendall Campbell helped lower the margin to eight after the first quarter.
The Lady Wildcats' offense did not improve in the second quarter. They hit three of 13 shots and turned the ball over nine times. Three 3-pointers helped the Pilots increase the margin to 14. Wiley trailed 41-23 at halftime.
Wiley was unable to make a second-half comeback. Despite the Pilots missing all six 3-point attempts, the Lady Wildcats went 0-for-7 from 3-point territory and only made eight of 27 shot attempts. They turned the ball over eight times.
For the second straight game, Brandy Jones led the Wildcats with 24 points. She hit seven shots with five from beyond the arc. Kelechi Dike followed with 11 points and shared the team lead in rebounds with Jessica Nerestant at eight. Keimora Banks led the team with eight assists while contributing eight points and four rebounds.
The Lady Wildcats will face NCAA Division I school Texas Southern University in an exhibition game on Tuesday.
