Women's Track and Field open 2024 Outdoor Season at Cowboy Relays

The Wiley University women's track and field team will compete for the first time in the 2024 outdoor season when it heads to McNeese State University for the Cowboy Relays "Bob Hayes Challenge" on Saturday at the Bill and Lena Henning Track and Field complex.

Field events begin at 9 a.m. and running events start at noon. The men's and women's team scores will be combined. Most of the competitors are from NCAA Division I schools.

The Lady Wildcats prepared for the outdoor season by competing in two indoor meets. Meeyesha Tutt-Moutouo posted a national championship qualifying distance in the long jump. Last season, she was an outdoor track and field national championship qualifier in the triple jump. Tutt-Moutouo is one of two returning from last season's team, which finished third in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Championship. Jean-Marie Farinha, who ran distance events and earned All-GCAC in the javelin, is the other returner.

Head coach LaMark Carter added seven freshmen. Asia Smith, Kaiden Taylor, Kya Deyon and Shannon Mills ran cross country in the fall. Brayleigh Mitchell and Shyla Starks played on the volleyball team. LaDaija Thomas competed at Waskom High School last year and ran at the indoor meets.
