Volleyball opens 2023 season against Langston, Paul Quinn
The Wiley College volleyball team will head to Dallas to face Langston University and Paul Quinn College in its opening matches of the 2023 season 5 & 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The Lady Wildcats are a young team as only three players return from last season's team, which won 11 matches and advanced to the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference semifinals. Shayla Arthur was an All-GCAC Honorable Mention last season. Kia Robertson played in 17 matches and recorded 20 kills and 32 blocks. Fatima Ortega saw an increase in playing time - recording 62 digs in 49 sets.
Head coach Nancy Sikobe who is entering her third consecutive season and ninth overall with the Lady Wildcats, brought in 10 players – eight freshmen and two transfers. Eight of those recruits are from the state of Texas. Johna Davis played one season at Concordia University in Austin, Texas. She transferred from Temple College. Setter Kyra Woods transferred from Clinton College. She is from Zachary, La.
Langston went 8-21 last season and won only one of 20 Sooner Athletic Conference matches. It finished the season on a 12-match losing streak. The Lady Lions return two from last season's team – Braelyn Spence and I'mani Pollard. Spence tallied 196 kills and 74 blocks. Pollard put up 49 kills and 28 blocks. Christian Lowe enters her fifth season as head coach.
Paul Quinn went 7-17 last season and enter their second season under Patrick Gonzalez. The Lady Tigers return seven. Kennadi Harris led the team with 248 kills – an average of 3.54 per set – and 194 digs. Jayda Trinidad tallied 7.39 assists per set and 27 service aces.
The Lady Wildcats will meet the Lady Lions for the 16th time since 2006. Wiley College holds a 14-1 series edge and has won the last nine meetings – including a five-set victory in 2021. The Lady Wildcats have won seven of eight matches against Paul Quinn College. Last season's match went five sets in favor of Wiley College.
