Volleyball visits Centenary College

The Wiley College volleyball team will prepare for Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play with a match at Centenary College of Louisiana at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The game will be played at a location to be announced due to Centenary's Gold Dome not having air conditioning. Live statistics will be available and the link is listed in the volleyball schedule on wileyathletics.com.

The Lady Wildcats (0-4) are coming off two three-set losses in their home Labor Day Classic against Louisiana Christian University and Jarvis Christian University on Saturday. They were out-hit .242 to (-).038 and outscored 35-24 in kills. Wiley College was outdone on the block 12-3.

Brayleigh Mitchell led the Lady Wildcats with seven kills. She was followed by Zykeya Hunt, who put up six. LeAndria Jackson led the team with seven assists. Kyra Woods and Nadia Cortez followed with five. Cortez recorded three aces. T'aja Hardy recorded 15 digs. Rejinah Hickman tallied a solo block and a block assist.

Against Jarvis Christian, the Lady Wildcats were outhit .244 to .146 and outscored 37-29 in kills. Mitchell led the Lady Wildcats with eight kills and two service aces. Cortez recorded a double-double with 11 digs and 10 assists.

The Ladies (2-2) split four matches in their home tournament. They beat Millsaps in four sets and swept Belhaven. Centenary lost to Howard Payne in straight sets and Texas A&M University-Texarkana in four sets.

Elizabeth Canady put up 40 kills. Jaylin St. Martin and Mackenzie Haley followed with 27 and 21, respectively. Meadow Smith put up 117 assists – averaging 8.36 per set. Kiara Liedy leads the Ladies with 62 digs – followed by Smith with 47 and St. Martin with 42.

The Lady Wildcats and Ladies will meet for the 23rd time. The teams played a home-and-home last season with both matches going in favor of Centenary. Wiley College has only won seven of the previous meetings. The schools will play at Alumni Gymnasium on October 4.
