Volleyball hosts Fisk, Oakwood

The Wiley College volleyball team will continue Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play with two matches at Alumni Gymnasium against Fisk University at 1 p.m. Saturday and Oakwood University at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Both matches will be live streamed on HBCU+ Channel 115 and live statistics will also be available. The links can be found in the volleyball schedule on wileyathletics.com.

The Lady Wildcats (3-14, 3-7 GCAC) enter Saturday's match ranked seventh in the conference standings. They trail Oakwood by a game for fifth place. They split their matches last week with a four-set victory over Tougaloo College and a four-set loss at Rust College.

LeAndria Jackson recorded 102 assists last week and earned GCAC Setter of the Week. Nadia Cortez earned Defender of the Week after posting 63 digs in three matches. Jackson ranks fifth in the GCAC with 5.12 assists per set. Cortez is fifth with 3.5 digs per set and third with 0.42 service aces per set.

Fisk (14-10, 8-3 GCAC) is on a 10-match winning streak, which started on September 22 and includes a sweep over second-place Dillard University. Jadyn Brackins leads the conference with 4.63 digs per set and is second in total digs with 370. Nephthys Re ranks second in the conference with 5.86 assists per set.

Oakwood (6-9, 4-6 GCAC) has surged in the conference standings – winning three of its last four conference matches – including a five-set victory at Rust College. Cameryn Bucknor ranks third in the conference with 5.40 assists per set and tied for third with 0.42 service aces per set.

The Lady Wildcats fell in three sets against Fisk on September 15 in Nashville. They were outhit .202 to .117. In the first meeting against Oakwood, Wiley College pulled out a five-set victory. It outscored the Ambassadors 61-45 in kills.
