Three earn NAIA Daktronics Scholar-Athlete
Wiley University volleyball players LeAndria Jackson, Fatima Ortega and Kya Gray took care of business in the classroom and the court as they were named National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Daktronics Scholar-Athletes on Tuesday.
The athletes earned the honor by holding a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher and played at least two seasons. They were among 1,200 athletes honored.
This is Jackson's seventh academic honor. She earned NAIA Daktronics Scholar-Athlete last season. Jackson is a two-time Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar, a 2021-22 Red River Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete, landed on the 2022-23 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Honor Roll and earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District.
Ortega secured her fifth academic honor. She earned NAIA Daktronics Scholar-Athlete, Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar and a spot on the GCAC Honor Roll in 2022-23. In her freshman season in 2021-22, she earned Red River Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete.
Gray, who returned to the team after sitting out the 2022 season, earned her second academic award. She was a RRAC Scholar-Athlete in 2021-22.
