Men's Soccer kicks off 2025 with Great Aspirations

Wiley University men's soccer team opens the 2025 season in front of its home crowd against North American University at 6 p.m. Monday at Pemberton Field.

Live stats will be available in the men's soccer schedule on wileyathletics.com. The match might be streamed on the Urban Edge Network.

The majority of last season's team returns, including Anthony Ulloa, who earned All-Continental Athletic Conference Second Team after leading the Wildcats in scoring with seven goals. Stephen Gaskin contributed three goals as a freshman. Aaron Castillo provided two goals and a team-high four assists. Juan Reyes returns, earns team captain for the third straight season. Habimana Janvier, Kevin Rosales, Rodrigo Rosales, Abel Lopez and Christopher Escalante enter their third season with the program.

Head coach Andrew Benitez enters his second season, making him the first returning coach since 2017. He is looking to improve upon last season's three wins, which tied the school's highest win total since the program returned in 2023.

"I was new last season and brought in several players," Benitez said. "We had to develop chemistry, which comes with time and experience. We're a stronger team that's going to compete for the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference championship."

Benitez bolstered the roster with the addition of 10 freshmen and three transfers. Ian Hernandez has NAIA National Championship experience in two seasons at Keiser University. Kanta Miyakawa is transferring from Southwestern Christian University. Reyes thinks the new recruits are fitting in nicely.

"They are going to help us play at a strong pace," Reyes said. "Our chemistry on and off the field has been unbelievable. I think they are going to make us a stronger team."

Monday's match will mark the second meeting between the Wildcats and Stallions. Wiley will look to avenge a 2-1 loss it suffered on the road last season. It is seeking its first season-opening victory since 2016.
