Wiley University women's basketball continues Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference play against Southern University of New Orleans at 5:30 p.m. Thursday and Dillard University at 1 p.m. Saturday inside Alumni Gymnasium.
The games mark the beginning of a three-game homestand that will conclude the 2025 portion of the Lady Wildcats' schedule. Both games will air on the Urban Edge Network and Live statistics will also be available.
The Lady Wildcats (6-2, 1-0 HBCUAC) look to extend their three-game winning streak and open conference play with consecutive victories for the second time in three seasons. They've held their opponents to under 60 points during the streak and are 24-4 under head coach DeWitt Mandley in those games.
Kelechi Dike averaged 16 points and 11.5 rebounds per game to earn HBCUAC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week. Alexis Foster took home Newcomer of the Week with 12.5 points and 4.5 assists per game. The honors give the Lady Wildcats five for the season.
Southern University at New Orleans (6-2, 1-1 HBCUAC) is off to its best start since the program was reinstated in 2022, and overall, since the 2012-13 season. It split its opening HBCUAC games with a two-point victory over Huston-Tillotson University and a two-point loss against Paul Quinn College.
Katelynn Wilson leads the Lady Knights with 16 points per game but hasn't played in the last three. Tierra Slyvas is averaging 15.9 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. Jakhiya Smith, who is an HBCUAC Defensive Player of the Week winner, leads the team with 9.5 rebounds per game.
Dillard (4-5, 1-1) returns a fraction of its team that finished as regular season runner-up and advanced to the semifinals of the HBCUAC 2025 Hope Credit Union Basketball Championship. The Lady Bleu Devils have won three of their last five, including splitting their opening HBCUAC contests. Azaria Knox paces the offense with 15 points per game. D'Mya Ferguson follows with 12.2 and leads the team with 9.8 rebounds per game.
The Lady Wildcats lead the series against the Lady Knights 8-2, with the two losses coming last season. The last win for Wiley was in the 2024 opening round of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Championship. It leads the series against Dillard 11-9 but four of the last five have gone in favor of the Lady Bleu Devils. The Lady Wildcats bested Dillard 48-45 in the semifinals of last season's HBCUAC Championship.
