Lopez claims HBCUAC Newcomer of the Week
After contributing to two goals in Wiley University's season opening win, Cynthia Lopez earned Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
In the 41st minute, Lopez passed to Yamilett Umana, who scored and increased the Lady Wildcats lead to two against North American University on August 25. In the 67th minute, she scored off a rebound on a shot by Nadia Hernandez, giving Wiley a two-goal lead en route to its first season-opening victory since 2016. Both of her shots were on goal.
Lopez transferred to Wiley from National Park College. She scored two goals in 20 matches. The Lady Wildcats visit Jarvis Christian University on Wednesday, Centenary College of Louisiana on Friday and play a neutral match against Huntingdon College on Saturday.
Wiley University sponsors 13 varsity sports, women's volleyball, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's indoor track and field, men's and women's outdoor track and field, softball and baseball. It competes in the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC).
