Quijano, Sanchez garner HBCUAC Weekly Honors

Wiley University goalkeeper Mariana Quijano wins Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) Defensive Player of the Week and Feryi Sanchez takes home Freshman of the Week. The ladies were honored for their performances between September 1 and 7.
 
Quijano picked up her second and third career victories and her first shutout. In Wednesday's victory against Jarvis Christian University, she stopped two shots. In Saturday's match against National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III school Huntingdon College, she made 11 saves en route to her first career clean sheet. Quijano leads the HBCUAC in saves, save percentage and goals against average.
 
Sanchez recorded her first two goals and an assist in three matches last week. In Friday's match against NCAA Division III program Centenary College of Louisiana, she scored the game-winning goal in the 70th minute. On Saturday, she set up Nadia Hernandez's third goal of the season and scored later in the first half, to secure a 2-0 victory over Huntingdon.
 
The ladies' performances helped the Lady Wildcats secure their best start in program history with four consecutive victories. This is the second and third weekly honor won by Wiley. Cynthia Lopez claimed Week 1 Newcomer of the Week.
 
The Lady Wildcats conclude their road trip on Saturday, visiting Texas A&M University-Texarkana.
