Women's Track and Field travels to Leon Johnson Invitational
The Wiley University women's track and field team will have its final tune-up for the 2024 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Championship at Northwestern State University's Leon Johnson Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the Walter P. Ledet Track and Field Complex.
Live results will be available. The link is listed in the women's track and field schedule. Friday's field events start at 3 p.m. with the long jump. Saturday's field events will start with the javelin throw at 11 a.m. Running events will begin at 1 p.m. with the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Meeyesha Tutt-Moutouo is hoping to hit a national championship-qualifying mark in the long and triple jumps. She jumped 5.44 meters at the McNeese Cowboy Relays on March 9, which was 0.24 meters shy of the 'B' qualifying standard. She hasn't jumped in the triple jump yet this season and needs to leap at least 11.55 meters.
Jayla Johnson is looking to improve her marks in the hammer and shot put throws. She threw 24.04 meters in the hammer throw and 9.10 meters in the shot put at the McNeese Cowboy Relays on March 9.
The Lady Wildcats seek faster times in running events. The 4 x 100-meter relay team of MacKenzie Catalon, Kaiden Taylor, LaDaija Thomas, Kyla Deyon and Tutt-Moutouo will look to cut more than two seconds off their season-best time of 50.06 to reach the 'B' qualifying standard of 47.75. Ariel Johnson will look to improve her time of 16.03 in the 100-meter hurdles, which is more than 1.5 seconds slower than the 'B' qualifying standard.
Along with the host Northwestern State, Wiley will compete against NCAA Division I schools Alcorn State University, Grambling State University and the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. Texas College will be the only other NAIA school at the meet.
