Tutt-Moutouo qualifies for NAIA Championship in Long Jump

NATCHITOCHES, La. - In its final meet before the 2024 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Track and Field Championship, the Wiley University women's track and field team gained its first NAIA national championship qualifier with Meeyesha Tutt-Moutouo advancing in the long jump at Northwestern State University's Leon Johnson Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the Walter P. Ledet Track and Field Complex.

This is the second straight season Tutt-Moutouo has qualified for nationals and first in the long jump. She leaped 5.70 meters, which was just over the 'B' qualifying standard of 5.68 meters. With a leap of 11.36 meters, Tutt-Moutouo was 0.19 meters shy of the 'B' qualifying standard.

Ariel Johnson just missed posting a national championship qualifying time in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 15.13 - which is 0.53 seconds slower than the 'B' qualifying standard. MacKenzie Catalon competed for the first since the McNeese Cowboy Relays on March 9. She participated in the 200-meter dash, the 400-meter dash, the 4 x 100-meter relay and the javelin throw. Jean-Marie Farinha competed in the 800-meter run and the discus. Along with Catalon, Kaiden Taylor, LaDaija Thomas and Kyla Deyon ran in the 4 x 100-meter relay.

Next week, the Lady Wildcats will head to the 2024 GCAC Track and Field Championship at Lee Hedges Stadium in Shreveport, La.
