Men's Soccer returns to action against Texas A&M-Texarkana
Wiley University men's soccer will take the field for the first time in over a week when it visits Texas A&M University-Texarkana at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Live video and statistics are available. The links are listed in the men's soccer schedule on wileyathletics.com. The Wildcats haven't played since defeating Jarvis Christian University 2-1 for their second straight victory on September 3. They are off to their best start since 2017, when they won seven of their first eight games.
Wiley picked up its fourth and fifth Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) Weekly Honors with goalkeeper Kevin Nievas repeating as Defensive Player of the Week and Ian Hernandez earning Newcomer of the Week for his assist on Aaron Castillo's game-winning goal. Nievas leads the HBCUAC with a 1.33 goals against average and a .692 save percentage. Castillo ranks fourth with two goals and four points.
The Eagles (1-2-2) are coming off a scoreless tie against Central Baptist College on Tuesday. They have only scored two goals in their last four matches. Diego Picano leads the team with two. Mark Garcia and Cristobal De Leon have also scored. Three have spent time in the net. David Yearwood is 1-0-1 with three saves and a 1.00 goals against average. Oliver Gregory (0-1-1) has made eight saves in two starts. CJ Jones stopped three of six shots in his lone start.
The Wildcats and Eagles meet for the fifth time. The first three meetings went Wiley's way when both schools competed in the Red River Athletic Conference from 2016-2018. The Eagles won the last meeting in 2023, when the program was reinstated for a second time. Habimana Janvier, Kevin Rosales and Juan Reyes are the only players on the active roster who played in the match.
This match is the second of five straight on the road. The Wildcats will visit Louisiana State University at Alexandria on Wednesday and William Carey University on September 19.
