Wiley University women's basketball finishes the 2025 slate of its schedule in a Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) game against Philander Smith University at 1 p.m. Saturday in Alumni Gymnasium.
 
The Lady Wildcats (8-2, 3-0 HBCUAC) look to end the first half on a high note, as they enter with a five-game winning streak after defeating Southern University at New Orleans and Dillard University last week. Moriah Burley averaged 14.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game to earn HBCUAC Newcomer of the Week. Head Coach DeWitt Mandley won WHoopDirt.com Week 3 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Coach of the Week, presented by Just Play Sports Solutions, after leading Wiley to its second 3-0 start in conference play in two of the last three seasons.
 
Wiley ranks third in the nation with 50.6 rebounds per game. It is second in the country with 20 offensive rebounds per game. The Lady Wildcats are 11th with 24 free throw attempts per game and rank 22nd with 69 field goal attempts per game.
 
Saturday's game will mark the 24th meeting between the Lady Wildcats and Lady Panthers. Wiley trails the series 14-9, dating back to the 1991-92 season. Last season the teams split the regular season meetings with each defending its home court. They met in the HBCUAC 2025 Hope Credit Union Basketball championship game, which the Lady Wildcats lost 49-38, marking the second straight time the Lady Panthers have ended their season.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Philander Smith (8-4, 3-0 HBCUAC) is one of five teams that are unbeaten in HBCU Athletic Conference play. It is playing its first season under head coach Larena Walker, who was an assistant last season. Brandon Greenwood is now leading the men's team. The Lady Panthers return five players from last season's team. Miracle Thomas, who was the 2025 HBCUAC Basketball Championship Most Valuable Player, leads the team with 14.8 points per game. Ashlyn Kimble follows with 12 and leads the team with 4.7 assists per game. Samya Johnson is averaging 10.4 points and six rebounds per game.
