Women's Soccer outlasts Huston-Tillotson
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Wiley University women's soccer struck first and bounced back after losing the lead in the second half on a goal by freshman Lizette Navarro to defeat the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) West Division champion Huston-Tillotson 3-2 on Monday at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.
The Lady Wildcats (8-5-0, 2-2-0 HBCUAC) secure the second seed in the HBCUAC West Division with the victory. They will face the East Division No. 3 seed Tougaloo College at Noon on November 4 in the Opening Round of the 2025 HBCU Athletic Conference Soccer Championship at Lee Hedges Stadium in Shreveport, La. It will be their first postseason appearance since 2017, when they advanced to the Red River Athletic Conference semifinals.
Feryi Sanchez got Wiley on the board with her fifth goal, scoring off a corner kick by Nadia Hernandez in the seventh minute. In the 31st minute, Hernandez connected with Alexse Orozco, who was making a run to the net and put it past Huston-Tillotson's goalkeeper Zoey Gonzales for her fourth goal of the season.
The margin held up until the 55th minute. A foul by Wiley allowed Huston-Tillotson to cut the lead in half. It tied the game in the 59th minute. Deyanara Hernadez had a chance to give the lead back to the Lady Wildcats in the 63rd minute. Her penalty shot was saved by Juliet Morales-Martinez. Sanchez had a shot hit the crossbar in the 75th minute.
In the 87th minute, Nadia Hernandez got a corner kick and Navarro headed the ball into the upper corner of the net to give the Lady Wildcats the lead. Huston-Tillotson had a chance to tie it in the last minute but its shot went high.
